Poker Stars smashes online poker world record

PokerStars broke the world record for having the largest amount of players entering a poker tournament.

The previous record of players entering a tournament was 230,000 players set at the 100 Billion hands celebration in June 2013, but Poker Stars had 253,698 players in this tournament.

This event offered a $100,000 (€89,000) purse and it event had a Cash prize for first place of $10 000 which a player from Austria won. The buy in for this tournament was just one cent.

PokerStars tournament was played under a turbo format, it also marked in a series the first of micro stakes events from Poker Stars, and during the 14 event festival the operator was set to give away $250,000 in prizes.

This is not the first time PokerStars has tried to break the record, in February 2014 they tired and failed falling short with only 211,619 players in total. Poker Stars latest boost has been breaking the world record for this tournament, which along with the Full Tilt Brand succeeded last week in getting approved to begin operating in the US state of New Jersey.
