Delaware Online Casinos Will Go Live To The Public On Halloween
Gary Parkinson Fri, 10/25/2013 – http://www.onlinecasino.org

It’s no trick; online gamers in Delaware will be treated to regulated gambling domains within the state beginning on Halloween. The state, nicknamed ‘The First State’ will live up to its moniker as the first state to mandate a full suite of online casino games to US-based players.

Online gambling reform in the US has been an ongoing saga for years. Unlike in Canada where players are allowed to place bets on offshore gaming sites, US players were prohibited from making their own bets following the passing of the 2006 Unlawful Internet Betting Act.

But many players continued to find ways around the law, and states decided to authorize online gambling in their jurisdictions, circumventing the federal ban. Unsurprisingly Nevada was the first state to go live with real-money betting, but players were restricted to online poker in the desert.

Delaware, on the other hand, went further with its legislation and was first to extend bets beyond the poker tables. This position allows players to bet on online slots, roulette, blackjack, and other table games. A similar law was passed in New Jersey, but sites are not scheduled to go live in the Garden State until the end of November.

The Delaware law authorizes online betting sites managed only by the state’s three physical casinos, and powered by the 888 Casino gaming platform. The state is home to over 900,000 residents, and managers of the internet domains expect to attract a large percentage of gamers who currently bet on offshore sites.

Ed Sutor, President of Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, believes the purpose of the online gambling sites is twofold. One is to position Delaware online casinos into the expanding internet betting market, while the other is to bring players and tourists back to the First State.

“It is going to bring customers back to the brick-and-mortars.”

For Delaware gamers, Halloween won’t be a day just for candy this year.

The latest revenue numbers for Atlantic City casinos could well force them to focus on getting online gambling up and running by the November 26th deadline. In a report by gamingtoday.com, Atlantic City casino revenues as a whole were down 13 percent over the same time period last year.

The numbers were a bit of a surprise seeing that the Miss America pageant was in town last month, but the increase in tourism failed to result in increased gambling revenue. As a whole, AC casinos took in only $240.2 million last month, down a staggering 12.9 percent over the same period last year.

Eleven out of 12 AC casinos posted a decline last month. The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel was the only exception. They actually posted a 4 percent gain. The hardest hit casino was Caesars AC. Their revenue dropped by 28.5 percent compared to last year. Trump Plaza was right behind with a 28 percent drop.

AC casinos took in $2.2 billion through September, a 9.3 percent drop over the same period in 2012. Last year’s total gaming was right at $3 billion and it seems unlikely that the casinos will hit that mark by the end of this year. Back in 2006, the city’s casinos reached a record high of $5.2 billion. Afterwards, casinos began opening in New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Online gambling has long been sold as a way for AC to compete with surrounding states as they have yet to legalize any form of online gambling. New Jersey is scheduled to officially go live with online gambling on November 26th. The added revenue should help to reverse some of the losses incurred by casinos over the last few years, but it remains to be seen how much revenue it will truly take in.

Only nine of twelve casinos have officially setup gambling partners. With revenues continuing to tumble, we may well see the other three finish their deals in short order and begin the process of getting games online.
